7 Green and Natural Gifts for a Two Year Old

by Charise Rohm Nulsen

green toysBig Brother received so many generous gifts from friends and family for his second birthday, but there are a few gifts I would like to share as go to suggestions if you’re looking for a green and natural gift for the two year old in your life.

For these purposes, my definition of great green and natural are gifts that don’t need batteries, are not made of plastic, stimulate the imagination, and are thoroughly enjoyed by my son.

Green Two Year Old

1. Uncle Goose Classic Alphabet Blocks
These wooden blocks are made with non-toxic inks. I love that they are lightweight (this helps a lot when a toddler is knocking down towers!). Big Brother has so much fun building roads and identifying the letters, numbers, and animals painted on the sides of the blocks. They are really beautifully crafted toys.

2. Melissa & Doug Wooden Take Along Tool Kit
Big Brother loves using tools like his mama and dada. It’s amazing to watch his coordination develop as he learns to work with the screwdriver and hammer.

3. Books
Big Brother is a huge fan of books, and I especially love two of the books he received for his birthday.
The Great Big Book of Families is a beautiful way for children to learn that there are all kinds of families in the world. It covers everything from different kinds of homes to transportation to holidays to the people that can makeup a family.

Big Brother is also now old enough to start to appreciate the lessons in The Lorax by Dr Seuss. We discuss how it is important to take care of our world and how the little decisions we make affect it.

4. Imaginarium Wooden Stacking Train
Big Brother loves vehicles of all kinds, and this train can be used for his imaginary train, car, and truck games as well as a puzzle of sorts as he fits the pieces together.

5. KidKraft Deluxe Garage Set
This playset offers Big Brother hours of imaginative play time. It was so nice to find a set that was not made entirely of plastic and does not light up and make constant loud noises. Big Brother provides his own sound effects as his vehicles move around the garage.

Guitar6. Wooden Acoustic Guitar
This link is not the exact guitar we bought for Big Brother, but it is similar. He loves to play guitar alongside of Dada. He strums and has even learned to use the pick.

7. Eco-Friendly Art Supplies
Big Brother received various eco-friendly art supplies for his birthday including an easel, Stockmar Beeswax Stick Crayons, Eco Kids Natural Plant Dye Modeling Dough, and Clementine Art Natural Paint. I love seeing him create and have fun with art, and I especially enjoy knowing he is doing so with eco-friendly and non-toxic supplies.

Those are all great ideas. Two year olds are so much fun. I would also like to add Green Toys to the list. They are made of plastic but they are non-toxic and made from recycled milk jugs! I love how durable and easy to clean they are. Both my boys (4 and 10m) play with them.

This is a great post! I’ve been trying to find some more eco friendly toys for our baby as she is growing out of her “baby” toys and needing more toddler age toys. I’m pinning this :)

Great ideas. I wish some people in my life would take a hint and stop with the plastic toxic toys! I have decided tosmile, say thank you, and donate them! That’s all I can do to stay sane!

I absolutely love the idea of getting little ones real musical instruments! That is something I definitely plan on doing for BabyE.

These are great, thanks so much for posting this! Jesse’s birthday is next month and you have some great ideas here. What I was thinking of getting him was an outdoor trampoline, as he loves being outside so much and loves jumping… but that is a rather large present ;)

Happy almost birthday to Jesse! I’m sure the trampoline would be a big hit. :-) The other awesome gift that I neglected to mention in this post was a set of four sensory tables. We use them almost every day!
