Win an Eco-Friendly Cookstove from EcoZoom! {ARV $119; ends 8/11}

by Charise Rohm Nulsen

I am thrilled to spread the word about EcoZoom, a social venture with a mission to design, manufacture, and distribute “clean” biomass cookstoves around the world. EcoZoom addresses the very serious global issue of respiratory disease from indoor air pollution – the 4th leading cause of death in the developing world – by offering portable stoves that reduce fuel use by over 50% and harmful emissions like CO2 and methane by over 70%.

EcoZoom’s web site explains the need for clean cookstoves:

Three billion people – half the world’s population – need a safer way to cook.

According to “The Energy Access Situation in Developing Countries”, a review completed by the World Health Organization and United Nations Development Program, 91% of the population in Least Developed Countries (LDCs) is without access to modern fuels. LDCs have 3 billion people – half the world’s population – relying on solid fuels of biomass and coal for their cooking needs. They primarily cook on open fires or unimproved cookstoves. These cooking methods cause problems for these people and the environment.

Women and children are most affected by these issues as they face problems due to smoke inhalation and personal safety. Imagine spending 4 – 6 hours of your day collecting fuel to cook ans spending the majority of your income on charcoal!

This is where EcoZoom comes in:

EcoZoom is a for-profit, certified B Corp that makes clean cookstoves accessible and affordable in developing countries. We work to empower local workforces, economies and women while creating financially sustainable markets.

Thanks to EcoZoom’s Z+ Program, every time someone purchases a stove, they will deliver a stove to a cook in need in a developing country.

wood stoveWhy should you purchase an EcoZoom cookstove for your family?
- It’s a green way to cook in your own backyard or while camping – whether you’re on a balcony, the beach, or in the middle of the woods!

- It’s a fun, easy, and safe way for your family to cook together!

- You can use it for a new hobby like canning or brewing beer.

- You’ll be prepared for an emergency! I have lost power for as long as nine days due to storms, so I love the idea of having this around as an emergency preparedness tool.

This is a great product. Heavy duty, efficient, and handy. Great for emergencies or camping. I’ve used both wood and coal in it to test it and the item preformed very well with both.

I love that they think globally….a safe cookstove for the impoverished is also a cookstove in an emergency for those who are not living in poverty.

I love that they are producing these for use in underdeveloped countries. My niece was in Lesotho in the Peace Corps and I think this would have worked much better than the solar oven we sent her.
